Xbox 360 overtakes Wii as the UK's No.1 games console

Xbox 360 is this generation's best-selling home games console in the UK, says GfK Chart-Track.

Microsoft's platform will overtake Wii in a matter of days, the stat tracker says. Xbox 360 is regularly outselling all rivals in hardware terms, and has now shifted 8.4m consoles across the country.

"This is an historic milestone and our sincere thanks goes to each and every person that has bought and enjoyed Xbox 360 over the past eight years," Director of Xbox and entertainment Harvey Eagle told MCV.

"As you saw at E3 earlier this month, we announced a new Xbox 360 form factor and we are committed to ensuring Xbox 360 remains the best place to play games, connect with friends and enjoy your entertainment. You'll see great exclusive content coming not only to Xbox 360, but also to Xbox One later this year."

It's a significant achievement for Microsoft as it prepares to launch Xbox One. The new platform has had a troubled start after its controversial business model angered gamers. But the platform holder has since cancelled these plans in a bid to win back favour amongst the fans.

However, Xbox 360 still has some way to go before it can be named the best selling home console of all time. PS2 holds that record with 10m consoles sold.

J'aurais honnêtement jamais cru que n'importe quelle console puisse rattraper la Wii vu le carton qu'elle a fait. Mais aussi bizarrement que cela puisse paraître, PS3 et 360 s'en sont bien sortis sur le long terme.
