CitationIn Caligula the students are trapped in Mobius, a virtual reality world where those within it repeatedly relive the three years of an ideal high school. Those inside Mobius continue to live with no recollection of the real world.

The main characters begin to come to their own realizations that they're not living in the real world, and form a "Return Group," as part of their own desires to return to the real world, and begin to find a way to do just that.

However, there are some members that suffered in the real world and were saved by Mobius, as they have a hidden darkness that can't be shared with others.

Mobius is an ideal world that was created by the vocal soft "μ." Here, there are those that were in despair in the real world and were saved by her song that granted them ideal situations. Regardless of age and gender, those in Mobius become high schoolers and relive its three years in a loop.

μ (CV: Reina Ueda): A vocal software that was created by humans. She's the one behind the creation of Mobius that was made to save the main characters from the struggle of real life. She is the creator of Mobius, and practically its god.

Protagonist (CV: Chiharu Sawashiro): The leader of the Return Group that aims to escape Mobius.

The dungeon exploring in the game will have battles that seamlessly transition into combat. It uses a command-based orthodox system with combos to go with it. When entering a command the main character's imagination visualizes, and it reproduces the actions of allies and enemies.

The "Ostinato" are musicians that go against the main characters. They are the ones that compose music for μ. They plan to destroy the Return Group that plans to escape from Mobius.

CitationThe word "Caligula" won't appear within the game, but word that is meant for the experience you'll get from playing it.

The idea behind its characters is to have them be people that have violated various taboos.

There was a certain taboo that the developers felt "we should probably leave it out," but Tadashi Satomi pinpointed to get that and make it extreme, and a character was created from that. This character is still doing well in the development.

The songs sung by μ are done by composers that are active on video upload sites.

Combat might look like an action game, but it's actions are command-based, so you'll get to take your time with it.

Defeating enemies in battle can get you experience and also skills that drop. There are numerous skills and quite the variety of them, so it'll be possible to customize, with plenty of depth.

CitationAt the 10:50 mark of the video, we get a look at the key characters from the "Return Group" of Caligula, a group of people that have realized that "Mobius" isn't a real world, as the people there are simply living ideal high school lives that repeat its three years, and they look for a way to return back to the real world. We'll have a closer look at the main characters with more detail later.

Skip to the 27:45 mark to get a look at the game's world of Mobius. There are about 500 unique characters to be found here, and you'll be able to interact with all of them and meet them. As you interact, you'll gain trust levels with them, and they'll eventually open up and tell you about their deep troubles. The higher this level is, the more they'll tell you about their troubles.

There are over 500 of these characters, meaning you'll be able to find out about each and every one of their troubles as you gain more trust. The next part shows how you'll find "suspicious" people within the school, and the battles start right then and there.

As for the gameplay, it's command-based, but using the "Imaginary Chain" battle system, you'll get to see movements and combos take place ahead of time before they actually take place. If it sounds a little confusing, you can check out our earlier report for the full details.

At the 31:59 mark, we get to see another battle take place, where the developers show us what it's like to fight more of a tankier opponent. This time, you can see that the enemy can't be launched into the air for a full-party combo, but you'll get to do a "Guard Break" to stagger them, and follow up with more hits.

Citationthe name "Caligula" comes from the "Caligula Effect," a term that can be used to describe when one has a higher desire for something they're not allowed to have. For example, wanting to see something more because they're not allowed to watch, wanting to do something more because they're not allowed to do it.
